For the price, it’s decent, June 16, 2017

I now have experience with three different brands of fidget cubes: Fidget Galaxy, Trianium, and now this Maxboost. Fidget Galaxy, which was the most expensive, is my hands-down favorite, I must confess. In fact, despite the higher price, I just ordered another because I gave mine to my mother, who is also a fidgeter. However, of the three, this Maxboost is my second favorite, so far. Someone else complained about the “rubbery” coating. My complaint would be that there isn’t enough of it. The coating comes in last of the three. Now for the sides: The “joystick” is quite unsatisfactory, with every little movement and very little tactile satisfaction. The five buttons definitely work to my satisfaction, though mind you, all five buttons click on this version. There are no silent ones. The steel marble rolls well on mine, but doesn’t have any other action than that (as compared to Fidget Galaxy’s, which can also be depressed with a clicking sound.) The three gears roll quite easily and click in both directions. Would have been better if the ‘gears’ extended a little further out so they’re easier to manipulate. The spinning disk moves easily on mine and the little nub is much more generous than the Trianium’s version, which, to put it bluntly, sucks. Toggle switch is on the loud side and not particularly smooth but is functional. The ‘thumb print’ would be more pleasing if it had a better feel to it (the edges should be smoother and the material isn’t the best) but at least you can actually FEEL the depression, unlike the Trianium version, which is so barely indented it’s worthless. Based on things I’ve read and with my experience with hand spinners, I suspect that not every cube from the same manufacturer is quite the same, but I’m quite satisfied with this two-pack. They’re not going to replace my Fidget Galaxy but both of the Maxboost cubes are, I feel, superior to the Trianium in most, but not all, categories, but lackluster in every category except one – maybe – when compared to the Fidget Galaxy cube. But for the price, you can certainly do much worse.

This cube is great for someone who likes to tinker, April 17, 2017

This cube is great for someone who likes to tinker. Five of the six sides have an interactive piece and the sixth, is a slight depression. Upon opening the box, it had a slight plastic smell but it went away after a little while. The feel of the product is nice and smooth. The packaging came sealed with a sticker and secured into an insert so even if the outer box was crushed during shipping it would still be fine. I love all of the sides of the cube but if I could change one it would be the one with the dial and a little bump. It seems to get stuck on occassion and doesn’t spin with ease. The on/off switch was a great size, the metal rolling ball with clicks was fun to move and the joystick rolled with ease. The side with the five clickable dots is soothing along with the smooth side with the depression. Overall, it does its what it promotes and their guarantee is great too!

I seriously can’t live without this thing, July 31, 2017

I have a personality disorder that unfortunately provides a ton of social anxiety. It’s hard for me to focus on interactions because of how worried I am over the interaction itself, even if I know the people I’m speaking to.

It’s also very hard for me to sit in one place too long, because it drives me literally insane to not perform some sort of action. I noticed that while taking a break from various tasks, I’ll pick up pens and snap the caps on and off because the sound and sensation is satisfying.

My father-in-law recently showed me a little gadget he bought himself: something called a “fidget cube”. I had never heard of these things before. He offered to let me try it out. I became addicted to how much it soothed me. He let me play around with it the whole time we were conversing, and I felt a lot less nervous, and less distracted.

The second I got home, I searched for one to have at home and to take with me on various trips. This is the one that caught my eye, and boy was I glad it did.

I’ve compulsively played with every single side of this thing probably hundreds of times already. The only one I can’t bear to touch is the sliders side, because I’m a little OCD about them being even. I took the time to line them up perfectly, so now I try not to touch it. I just like how even they look. If I do happen to move them by accident, I have to take the time to make them even again.

The ones I’m most obsessed with touching are the ones with buttons. That sound and feeling of clicking something over and over is unmatched. I can’t describe why it makes me feel better. It just sort of… does. My favorite one is the on/off switch, which is unfortunately the loudest one, so people around me can easily become irritated. I’ve clicked that switch so many times that the I/O print on the surface has completely rubbed off. The side with the four buttons is my usual alternate go-to, and I love pushing them all at once with both of my thumbs.

The side I like the least is actually the stretchy loop, because it’s filled with rubber, not empty like shown in the photos. Maybe mine was a manufacturing error, but that really annoyed me, because I looked forward to putting my finger in the loop and pulling on it that way. Without the empty space there, it doesn’t leave me feeling satisfied when I pull on it, so I tend not to play with it.

The biggest drawback about this particular cube is that while it does fit in my palm well, it doesn’t fit well in my pocket. It juts out and looks a little silly. It’s drawn the eyes of strangers to it, and it’s humiliating for me, as I get very uncomfortable when people I don’t know are looking at me. That’s where a fidget cube performs better. It’s less of a bulge in my pocket, and there are fewer eyes on me.

In conclusion, this “toy” was a bit of a lifesaver, because it actually does help me focus better, and it allows me to stay in one place for longer periods of time. I use them when I study for an exam I’m going to take, and I use them while watching films and having conversations. I can’t live without a fidget device now. I’m hooked.

On a side note, I received a couple of other mysterious fidget cubes in the mail about a week or two later. I didn’t order them, and no one else I know ordered them. They just sort of… appeared on my doorstep. I’m not complaining, because they were what is called “infinite cubes” which are basically fidget cubes that can be folded and unfolded infinitely in any direction, and are so incredibly relieving to play with. Words can’t do them justice. I assume that these cubes I received somehow related to this one I ordered and that it was some kind of gift. Whoever sent them to me… I love you. My life is complete.

Albeit, it isn’t completely anxiety-free. But it does help more than any medications I’ve taken, if you can believe that.
